Finding the Cause of Right Side Abdominal Pain

If you have been sick only a few days in your life, you may became worried when you start experiencing reoccurring right side abdominal pain.

There are a lot of body parts contained within the abdomen, so when discomfort originates from this region, the possible culprits are numerous. Making the situation even more exasperating is that irritation within this area is sometimes caused by a problem in another region of the body.

If you have had cramps, you know they can hurt, a lot. The intensity of the discomfort is enough to make you believe that something has gone seriously awry within your body. However, these muscle spasms are basically harmless and should cause no lasting damage. Cramping can be brought on by dehydration, menstrual periods or excessive use of muscles.

Gas buildup can cause severe pain in the abdomen. The sting should subside with the release of the gas. Like cramps, this condition is relatively harmless.

Illnesses such as flu and indigestion can be contributors as well, causing twinges throughout the abdomen.

Pain that is affecting a specific area, localized pain, is more likely to be stemming from a more severe problem than is generalized aching. A couple causes of localized tenderness are appendicitis (However, appendicitis may start by producing generalized pain.) and peptic ulcer disease. Inflammation of organs within the region can also cause this type of discomfort.

Sometimes, receiving a hit to the abdomen can cause these problems. For instance you may trip and fall, but notice no injury immediately. Then later when you have forgotten about the fall, symptoms may begin to present themselves – for example, when you bump yourself on a side of a car door or counter. If irritation persists, you should see a doctor as you may have internal damage.
